Darajani Gogo eye redemption in high-stakes Kibera derby

Darajani Gogo's head coach, Paul Ogai, has underscored the necessity for an immediate response as his team gears up for a pivotal derby against Kibera Black Stars; this determination follows a humbling 4-1 defeat to league leaders Nairobi United last Saturday.

In that encounter, Edwin Odhiambo, the new signing, provided the sole consolation goal for Darajani Gogo. However, defensive frailties were evident, a concern that Ogai did not shy away from addressing.

"We played well but not well enough to secure the three points we deserved. The third and fourth goals were quite similar—basic errors cost us. When you lack experienced players, it’s tough to maintain momentum.

“Our approach was to seal the midfield, but tactically, they exploited our right side.

“Our center-backs weren’t at their best today," remarked the former Western Stima tactician.
Despite the setback, Ogai remains optimistic about the title race and is resolute in his belief that his team can bounce back, especially with the upcoming derby on the horizon.

"We still have about 14 matches remaining, so we cannot say we are out of the title race. Most teams tend to slow down at some point, but for us, we must fight until the end, especially in our upcoming derby," he asserted.

This Saturday evening, the spotlight will be on Marist International University in Karen, where Darajani Gogo FC is set to host their fierce rivals, Kibera Black Stars FC.

Their previous encounter saw Kibera Black Stars clinch victory, thanks to a decisive goal from Donald Ange, who was the league’s top scorer at the time.

Currently, Kibera Black Stars occupy the third position on the league table with 39 points, holding a three-point advantage over fifth-placed Darajani Gogo, who have amassed 36 points.
With league leaders Nairobi United at 48 points and APS Bomet closely trailing with 47, the title race remains fiercely contested.

Beyond the intense rivalry, Saturday’s match carries significant implications for both teams' aspirations for a KPL promotion. A win for either side would bolster their chances and keep their title hopes alive.

As the teams prepare for this crucial showdown, fans eagerly await to see whether Darajani Gogo can rebound and reignite their championship ambitions or if Kibera Black Stars will continue their ascendancy.

Kibra’s dream of having a team in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) has never been this close to reality.
