Dan Shikanda to vie for Nairobi FKF NEC member

While launching his bid for the seat on Friday, Shikanda said he was counting on his experience in the game to elevate him to victory during the polls.

His candidature will see him square it out with other six opponents including incumbent Michael Majua, Athanus Oballa, Simon Mugo, Isaac Macharia, James Masese and Daniel Ongware in what will be one of the hotly-contested seats.

Shikanda pledged to lead a "new dawn" for the industry, one driven by transparency, inclusivity, and sustainable progress.

"This journey is about ensuring a strong, sustainable future for Kenyan football, with transparency, inclusivity, and progress guiding us forward," Shikanda stated.

“As someone who has been involved in Kenyan football for many years, I have seen both our strengths and our struggles. I understand what is required to bring about a new dawn in our industry."

He stressed the importance of selecting leaders who are committed to uplifting all aspects of the football ecosystem, from grassroots talent to professional clubs and players.

“This journey is about ensuring a strong sustainable future for Kenyan football with transparency, inclusivity and progress guiding us forward. A new dawn is within reach, but it requires every one of us to come together with purpose and dedication."

“I stand here with a commitment to elevate the sport and with your support, I am ready to take on this role and work towards meaningful change.”

The former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards player is in his second and final term as Leopards chairman and he hopes to support Ingwe if clinches the NEC seat.

“I’m in my final term as the AFC Leopards boss and according to our constitution I can’t run for another term.  Being Leopards chief means I’m active in football and that’s why I have decided to vie for the NEC member seat.

“I will not resign my post to vie for NEC, but I will continue holding it till the end. If I win Nairobi NEC member post tem I will serve the two capacities but will also look for someone to help me in Ingwe side.”

Ten NEC seats are being contested across the country, representing eight former regions formerly provinces, although Rift Valley is split into two (Upper and Lower).

The extra seat is reserved for the women's representative.
