Fireworks are expected in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s league this weekend as the regular league enters the homestretch.

The fourth and last leg, which serves off Friday through to Sunday, will see five teams jostle for the remaining four playoff berths, with four teams already secured their spots.

Former champions of the General Service Unit (GSU), who are only four points off the top, have a perfect chance to top the table, having three games to play with leaders of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), who have already concluded their fixtures.

Although finishing top of the table is not Gideon Tarrus’ main objective, the GSU head coach wants the remaining games to be a dress rehearsal for the end-of-season playoffs.

“We are already in the play-offs so we are just going to use the remaining matches to prepare for the play-offs. I’m still shaping up my team because it is not yet where I want it to be. The three matches will help me know where to improve and if we win, it will still be a bonus to us,” Tarrus told Citizen Digital.

The para-military side has just lost one match this season and that was against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and their matches against NYS, Nairobi Prisons and Western Prisons should just be theirs to lose.

Defending champions Kenya Prisons, who have lost two matches this season against perennial rivals GSU and new-bies Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) will also be looking to end off the season on high when they face Mt. Kenya Base Yetu on Sunday.

Ninth-placed Kenya Forest Service will be in the frying pan, with three of the four opponents they will battle face in the epic finale enjoying superior seeding.

The forest rangers face Trail Blazers on Thursday’s opener before a double header with Equity and Mt. Kenya Base Yetu on Friday. They will then face KDF in the last fixture of the league which is their tricky game of the weekend.

Already leaders KPA, Kenya Prisons, GSU and Equity have secured play-offs spots as fifth placed KDF, sixth placed Trail Blazers, seventh placed KAPU, eighth placed Nairobi Prisons and ninth placed KFS battling out for the remaining four slots.
