CS Namwamba welcomes FIFA for dialogue on Kenyan football

The Sports
Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba says the Government is doing its part in the
attempt to streamline the management of Kenyan football.
The country’s
most popular sport has been mired in controversy with the Football Kenya
Federation accused of mismanaging talent and public resources at its disposal.
Kenya is
only just returning to international football competition following a ban
imposed on the country by FIFA, who Namwamba said he had contacted over key
issues with a view to establish a dialogue.
The CS was
speaking at a hearing by the senate committee on labour and social welfare
chaired by West Pokot Senator Julius Murgo Abu.
“I have read
to the senate the letter that I had written to FIFA as a ministry have taken the
measure that are supposed to be taken to help us solve the problem that we are
facing as a country when it comes to football management. I will be very glad
to get the response from FIFA on the letter we had written to them,” Namwamba
said.
Namwamba assured
that the FKF elections will be conducted on February 24th next year as per the
Sports Act 2013 and the federation’s constitution.
“Every
football stakeholders will like to know when we are going to hold the next
elections how everything has been planned if the elections will be free and
fair this is something that we have spoken about openly and the elections will
held on the 24th of February next year according to the FKF constitution.”
Namwamba
appeared before the senate following a complaint by the Nairobi County Football
Association on behalf of other counties were complaining about football
management in the country.
The current
FKF administration led by its president Nick Mwendwa has been in office since February
2016.
