CS Namwamba: Nyayo, Kasarani out of bounds for non-sporting events

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has banned all non-sporting events on stadiums that have been earmarked to host the 2027 African Cup Of Nations that is set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

This comes even as the facilities continue to bear the brunt for hosting sporting and non-sporting activities despite the government announcing their closure to allow renovations ahead of the Africa's football premier biannual event.

Namwamba announced that the ministry had agreed with the event organizers to steer clear Nyayo Stadium when planning for non-sporting events adding that the facility had become a hub of activities including crusades and political events.

“I've banned all the non-sporting activities from these pitches and we have even agreed that the Jamhuri Day celebrations should be hosted elsewhere just to protect this pitch so that we can have a good pitch for the players.

The CS made the announcement on Tuesday when he visited the Harambee Starlets camp during their last training session ahead of Wednesday's 3pm clash with Botswana.

"I'm very confident that our girls have what it takes to qualify but I urge Kenyans to come out and fill the Nyayo Stadium today to be that critical twelfth player for the girls,” said Namwamba.

He was accompanied by FKF boss Nick Mwendwa.
