CS Murkomen pledges full support for new FKF leadership
Cabinet Secretary for Sports Kipchumba Murkomen has assured
Kenyans that the government will collaborate closely with the new Football
Kenya Federation (FKF) leadership to revitalize the sport in the country.
This follows the election of Hussein Mohammed as the new FKF
president on Saturday, December 7, marking the beginning of his four-year term.
Hussein succeeded Nick Mwendwa, who had held the position since
2016.
"Over the weekend, you witnessed the election of a new
football leadership. We now have a team full of energy, elected by football
delegates in a fair and square manner," said Murkomen, commending the
process and outcome of the elections.
Murkomen expressed confidence in the leadership of Hussein and
his team, which includes former footballer McDonald Mariga - the new Vice
President of Kenya's FA.
"I'm confident that Hussein Mohammed, McDonald Mariga and
their team will transform Kenyan football . They are individuals I have
assessed and believe we can work with transparency and accountability as the
Ministry of Sports to propel our football forward," he added.
Mukomen knows that Hussein's leadership has to focus on tackling
critical issues such as corruption, match-fixing, and securing sponsorship
deals to enhance the sport's growth.
"By emphasizing integrity, accountability, and
transparency, the new team can rebuild trust and reinvigorate football in
Kenya."
