Speaking during the progress inspection on Friday afternoon, Murkomen assured the public that the facilities would only be handed over once they meet the required specifications.

“This is a very important project that we need to deliver on time. By the end of next year, we should be able to have this project completed ready for certification.

“We have confidence in the contractors that they will deliver a good job and as a ministry we will continue with the inspection until completion,” he said.

“We urge our athletes to be patient and continue their training at various locations, but by December, they will have these facilities back for their use," he added.

Murkomen also emphasized the importance of a sustainable maintenance policy that will ensure the longevity and continued functionality of the stadiums.

“This will be a major investment for our country. We promise to deliver the stadiums to the standards required. These facilities will have the best technology applied and will be multimodal.”

His Ministry of Defencee counterpart Sopian Tuya reiterated Kenya Defence Forces' commitment to supporting the projects and also beating the deadlines.

KDF is overseeing the construction of the 60,000-capacity stadium by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).

“As KDF, we have the mandate to offer support to other agencies. We are on course in terms of progress and timelines. We are confident that we will meet the deadlines, and the quality of work will be assured,” she said.

Talanta City Stadium is earmarked to be completed by the end of next year while Kasarani and Nyayo should be ready for use by December this year, according to CS Murkomen.

The three facilities will be used to stage matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament that will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
