CS Amina disappointed by Kipchoge Stadium delays
Sports CS Amb. Amina Mohammed has expressed her disappointment over delays in completing the construction of Kipchoge Stadium in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking while overseeing the ongoing works at the stadium, Amina the delay is due to change of contractors, urging them to expedite works to be completed in time.
“These projects should be white elephants. This is the home to our wonderful champions and must have their facilities completed on time and to the best of standards.
“This is actually my third or fourth visit to Uasin Gishu to ensure projects are completed as we hope not only to have a training facility for our athletes but a stadium that can host international events in future,” CS Amina said.
CS Amina said Kipchoge Stadium is now at 45% completion and is scheduled to be completed in May this year.
She said two stadiums that is Chuka and Meru in Meru county are near completion, adding that Kisumu stadium, Kirigiti, Marsabit and Nyeri are also on track.
Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has said the completion of Kamariny stadium in Elgeyo Marakwet county, Kipchoge stadium in Eldoret and one in Kapsabet, Nandi county is long overdue to host world major events.
Mandago said the stadia will be of great importance to the athletes in the region, noting that there is need to closely monitor the contractors working on the stadia projects.
