Kibera Soccer Women’s coach David Vijago is confident that his team will defeat Vihiga Queens and clinch the FKF Women’s Cup in the final, which is scheduled for Saturday at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru County.

Kibera advanced to the final after a dominant 2-0 victory over the current FKF Women’s Premier League champions, Kenya Police Bullets, last Sunday at Dandora Stadium. Their opponents, Vihiga Queens, secured their place in the final with a 2-1 win over Bungoma Queens at the Mumias Complex.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, Vijago expressed confidence in his team’s preparations, stating they are ready to give their all in the final. He also urged Kibera’s fans to come out in large numbers to support the team.

“Our semifinal was challenging, but we managed to secure a win and make it to the final. We’re starting our preparations today, and I’m confident we’ll come out on top and make history. In the previous match, I noticed that we were slow to get into the rhythm of the game from the first whistle, and that’s something I’m working on improving,” Vijago said.

He also called on Kibera’s supporters to rally behind the team: “I urge our fans to come in full force and support us. I promise them that we will not let them down.”

This year’s cup will have new champions, as three-time winners Ulinzi Starlets were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Kibera, following a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout victory.

There will be no third-place playoff this year, meaning the match between Bungoma Queens and Kenya Police Bullets will not take place. This marks the second consecutive year the Bullets have been eliminated in the semifinals. Last year, they were knocked out by Ulinzi Starlets after a 1-1 draw, which was decided by penalties.

Kibera, who lost to Ulinzi Starlets 2-1 in last year’s final at Police Sacco Stadium, will be aiming to go one better this time and lift the trophy.
