Committee Inspects Jamhuri Sports Complex
The National Assembly's Committee on Sports and Culture
Thursday conducted an inspection tour of the Jamhuri Sports Complex to
determine the state of the grounds which were constructed and completed in
2022.
Speaking during a presser after the inspection, on behalf of
the committee Chairperson Hon. Daniel Wanyama, committee member Hon. Mary
Emaase, said that despite the facility being ready for use, the pending bills
derailed the handover by the contractor.
"The contractor is still on site incurring alot of
costs. There are liabilities that need to be paid and this is going to be an
additional cost.
" There's need for the Ministry to take over, set the
pending bills and operationalize the project," Emaase said.
The committee also noted cases of vandalism in the facility
despite a police station domiciled in the facility.
"Security is an issue in the facility. However, the
police station is domiciled here, and vandalism is still evident," she
added.
The complex is mooted as one of the training facilities to be
used in Kenya's bid for jointly hosting the African cup of Nations.
