Coach Oluoch: This is why Africa Nazarene lost in weekend league matches
ANU Panthers lost their first match 43-53 to newcomers Safe Spaces in the women’s premier league while ANU Wolfpacks lost 51-65 to former champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in the men’s premier league match.
Oluoch admitted that the ladies team were somehow overconfident in meeting the newbies.
“The ladies team made a lot of mistakes, we missed a lot on the rim, and we missed a lot of free throws that was not really expected. We gave our opponents many opportunities that we were not supposed to give them which played a very big role towards our loss.
Safe Spaces were not missing the opportunities we gave them; but for us we were missing a lot of them,” Oluoch said.
On the men’s team, Oluoch blamed his charges for giving KPA room to open the lead especially in the third quarter.
“We gave KPA an opportunity to open the lead then started fighting back in the last quarter but time was not on our side but the good thing is a learning process for my team,” Oluoch added.
However, Oluoch insists all is not lost as they have young players on board and it’s a learning curve for the side.
“We have a lot of new players, new blood coming in from High Schools, I still have to be patient with them and give them an opportunity to compose themselves and play the premier league that we are in right now. I hope in the next game we will improve and learn from our mistakes and grow from there,” Oluoch added.
