Coach Musa upbeat as boxing team gears for WWC in Serbia

The national women's boxing team head coach Benjamin Musa is upbeat as the team gears up for an electrifying showdown at the 2025 Women’s World Championships set for Nis, Serbia, from March 6–17.
The team
will be captained by Elizabeth Andiego, a seasoned boxer and two-time Africa
Championships silver medallist. Others in the squad are; Friza Anyango, Amina
Martha, Veronica Mbithe, Pauline Chege , Emily Juma , Cynthia Mwai , and Lencer
Akinyi —with Juma, Mwai, and Akinyi making their international debuts.
Despite
facing challenges in preparation, Coach Musa Benjamin remains optimistic.
“We’re
going in with high hopes. It’s tough without a proper residential training
camp, but we believe in our fighters,” she said. “If the draw is favourable,
and our debutants rise to the occasion, we can cause major upsets. The ring is
where champions are made, and we’re ready to fight!”
He also
emphasized the need for better training facilities, more exposure to
international tournaments, and proper equipment to match up against the world’s
best.
This
will be Kenya’s fifth appearance at the global stage, having previously fought
in 2010, 2012, 2022, and 2023. The team jets off on March 4—ready to make
history and put Kenyan boxing on the map once again.
