KCB RFC head coach Oliver Mang’eni says they have to do more in readiness for the Kenya Cup play offs, after warding off the Oilers at the weekend.

KCB charged from behind to defeat Menengai Oilers 29-27 at the KCB Sports Club and Mang’eni reckons they were outplayed despite coming out winners.

“We needed to manage our territory better, manage our set pieces because that is where the 15s game is won.

So, we need to go back to the drawing board and look at what didn’t work, especially with our territory and our scrummages that we really need to work on going into these hard matches in the play offs.”

Mang’eni who took charge of KCB just before the start of this season says they will need to put more emphasis on their scrums and general set pieces before their next assignment against Impala RFC.

“Next time we really need to look at our scrums because we were exposed. Our focus now shifts to Impala next weekend here (at the KCB Sports club) so we need to prepare and we need a quick turnaround before we play that match because we need to fix those two areas of weakness.”

After the Impala match, the bankers will conclude their regular season by facing their arch-rivals Kabras Sugar before getting into the playoffs.

KCB are gunning to dislodge their nemesis Kabras Sugar RFC from the Kenya Cup gong this year, with the millers having won the league for three seasons consecutively.
