Coach Kiki says KPA yet to hit peak form despite winning start
The Kenya Ports
Authority (KPA) men’s basketball team head coach Sammy Kiki has admitted that
his team is not in great shape despite winning their first game of the season
over the weekend.
The
defending champions made a winning start to their campaign when they hammered Africa
Nazarene University (ANU) 64-47 on Saturday at the ANU grounds.
“I am happy
with the win, being our first game of the season especially playing our
opponents at their home court.
“They gave a little resistance to us but at the end we shored up our defense and we emerged victorious. We are still working on our fitness level. That's why we went to Limuru for higher altitude training to do the fitness level.
“The team
chemistry is not yet there yet; we have some new players assessing them but we
managed to use one in our game one as we are yet to register the others. He
played well considering it was his first game with us,” Kiki added.
KPA's men
and women teams are currently at Limuru where they have been training since last
week as part of preseason initiative.
The Mombasa
based side has won the league in the last two consecutive seasons and will be
looking forward to the third consecutive title.
