Nairobi City Thunder continued their perfect winning
streak in the Kenya National Men’s Basketball Premier League (KNBL) with
impressive performances over the weekend against varsity teams.
The defending champions defeated USIU
Tigers 85-67 on
Saturday before dismantling University of Nairobi’s Terror 96-48 on Sunday at the Nyayo Gymnasium.
Thunder have played eight matches, winning
all and amassing 16 points so far.
Despite the victory, head coach, Brad Ibs, believes
they made some mistakes in Saturday's game against USIU.
“We made mental errors and lapses but at the same time it was good as
some of our younger players got extended minutes and quality game time against
a very good opponent (USIU. But we had an opportunity to talk about it
after Saturday's game,”
Ibs said.
In Sunday’s game against Terror, Ibs
believes they pulled up their socks and played a much-improved game.
“Efforts were there, communication was better and it was a big step
up from the way we played on Saturday. We now have to focus on our next assignment
against Equity Dumas this coming weekend,” stated Ibs.
In their Sunday’s game against Terror,
Thunder dominated the
entire match, winning the first quarter 22-15
before registering a 26-16 victory and ended the first half
with a commanding 48-31 lead.
After the break, Thunder continued from
where they left after
the break, claiming the third quarter 34-10 before putting a 14-07 icing on the cake to
end the game with a 96-48 win.
