Chuka Vikings target Nationwide Central league playoffs
The Kenya
Rugby Union (KRU) Nationwide league is slowly but surely heating up as major
teams in various regions battle it out for the few play off slots available
with the hope of promotion come the end of the current campaign.
In the
Central region, despite a slow start to the campaign, Chuka University Vikings
registered a much needed win against Meru University wardogs over the weekend
to earn their first win of the season, giving hope for resurgence in the
remaining three matchdays.
Vikings head
coach Kevin Mwenda attributed their slow start to the season to loss of major
players in their set up, saying the new blood have gelled well with the rest.
“We lost so
many players last season and that’s why we started poorly losing our first
three matches but we are now in a better position because we got bonus points
in the losses and the gap isn’t big,” Mwenda said.
He added he
targets to win all the remaining matches so as to make the play offs.
“Our first
aim is to make it to the play offs and then we will see how it goes from there.
We are improving and we aren’t very far from where our opponents are in terms
of play and we hope to win all the remaining games.”
MKU Thika
and Embu RFC are the other two teams who secured wins against Kenya Prisons and
JKUAT Cougars respectively in the KRU Nationwide Central Region league over the
weekend, as the league nears the homestretch.
