Chipu's Head Coach, Simon Jawichre, praised the national rugby under-20 team for their outstanding performance in Zimbabwe, despite facing skepticism from their opponents before the tournament.

Reflecting on their journey, Jawichre expressed the initial doubts cast upon Chipu, which dampened their morale before the competition commenced.

Upon returning to Kenya following a victorious campaign in Harare, Jawichre disclosed that their rivals had underestimated them, deeming them underdogs.

However, Chipu defied expectations and commenced their Rugby Africa U20 Trophy campaign with a resounding 34-28 victory against Namibia in an electrifying match held on a Saturday in Harare.

This triumph held significant meaning for Chipu, considering their previous setback against Namibia during the Barthes U20 Trophy South final in March 2018.

That defeat denied Kenya a spot in the final round of qualification for the Junior World Rugby Trophy, serving as a motivating factor for the team.

Jawichre highlighted the lessons learned from the 2018 loss, emphasizing the team's preparation for the Bathes Cup 2024, which ultimately led to their Tournament Trophy victory.

"We capitalized on our strengths and exploited Namibia's vulnerabilities, executing our game plan effectively," remarked Jawichre.

In the final match against Zimbabwe, Chipu faced an early setback trailing 10-0 against the host nation. However, Jawichre commended his team's composure, asserting their confidence in their tactical approach and winning mentality.

"Despite the initial deficit, we remained composed and capitalized on Zimbabwe's overconfidence. We meticulously exploited their weaknesses, gradually turning the tide in our favour," stated Jawichre.

The culmination of the game brought an overwhelming sense of pride for Jawichre and the entire team, representing their country with distinction.

"The feeling of victory was indescribable, knowing that we had not only triumphed on the field but also showcased the resilience and determination of our nation," said the tactician.
