Chilo hits three as 8-star Bandari Queens thump Macmillan
Bandari Queens FC ran riot against Macmillan Queens, thumping
them 8-0 in a Women National Super League (WNSL) match played at Ukunda
Showground, Kwale County on Sunday afternoon.
Bandari Queens consoled their fans who witnessed men’s side Bandari
FC humiliated by Bidco United with a 0-2 defeat at the same venue earlier on, in a
Kenyan Premier League (FKF-PL) match.
Chilo Chikophe grabbed a hat-trick while a brace from Agnes
Olesi and one each from Happy Mutta, Tacy Olembo and Salama Gaone sealed the
huge win.
Olesi opened the scores for host Bandari just in the second
minute, after connecting Marion Wali freekick with Macmillan defenders appearing
lost.
Four minutes later, Chilo dazzled past the entire Macmillan defense
line before slotting a low hard shot past goalkeeper Irene Makungu.
Macmillan settled into the game late but attempts from
Diana Otieno and Lucy Nelina bore no fruit, and the first half would end at
2-0.
At the start of second half, Bandari Queens' Tacy Olembo was fouled
in the 18-yard box and the referee pointed to the spot. The penalty was successfully
converted by Olesi.
Chilo extended Bandari’s lead just a minute later after tapping
into an empty net following a Happy Mutta shot which rattled the post before
bouncing on her path.
She then completed her hat-trick after firing a powerful shot
over Macmillan Queens goalkeeper Irene Makungu to make it 5-0 for the hosts, in
what had hitherto turned into a one-sided affair.
With Macmillan appearing to result to damage control tactics, Bandari continued piling pressure and their efforts were further rewarded in 64th minute, when Mutta netted the sixth.
The visitors only shot on target in the second stanza came in
66th minute, through Yvonne Adayaji's powerful free-kick which was however
stopped by Bandari’s goalkeeper Belinda Akinyi.
Olembo made it 7-0 with a 30-yard shot packed into the top corner;
before Gaone completed the rout in stoppage time from Irene Namale’s cross.
Bandari Queens coach Janet Amunga praised her side for the win, saying it will bring back confidence into the team.
"We had lost two matches in a row and we had to get back the winning touch, am happy we did it in style. The task is now building on this result going forward," reflected Amunga.
