Cheruiyot, Ebenyo eye more glory after World Cross Country excellence

The final group of the triumphant Kenyan athletes who excelled at the World Cross Country Championships in Florida, USA landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi on Wednesday morning.

Fans and athletics officials gathered at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to welcome the team, celebrating their remarkable performance on the global stage.

Bronze medalist Daniel Ebenyo described the experience as a privilege. “It’s not really about the medal, but the experience the race presented,” he said, adding that the lessons learned will be invaluable as he prepares for the rest of the season.

Ebenyo said the competition has opened a new chapter for him. He revealed that he will be sitting down with his coaches to carefully plan his next steps, with a special focus on the World Half Marathon in Copenhagen in September.

“This race will be a big test, and we want to make sure we are ready,” he noted.

His teammate, Reynold Cheruiyot, described the Florida outing as a positive experience, despite a few challenges along the way.

“I’m proud to represent the country,” he said, noting that the lessons on race management will help him avoid similar challenges in future competitions.

Reynold added that he will immediately resume training with his coaches, setting his sights on upcoming competitions, including the Diamond League and Commonwealth Games, aiming to continue showcasing Kenya’s dominance in long-distance running.

Both Ebenyo and Cheruiyot, alongside the rest of the team, emphasized that their achievements are not only personal milestones but also a source of inspiration for the next generation of Kenyan athletes.

Their dedication and performance are a testament to why Kenya remains a powerhouse in international athletics, with eyes firmly set on upcoming global events.
