Chepsaita XC Run: DP Kindiki says a lot more must be done to nurture talents
Deputy President Prof. Kindiki Kithure says the government must do a lot more to nurture talents in the country.
Speaking Saturday
in Chepsaita during the second edition of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country
Run, Kindiki said, “Athletics is as source of our unity, it brings us together.
There is a lot of talent…the kids running are from the villages and they want to
nurture their talent.”
Noting that education
is the ultimate equalizer in life, Kindiki hailed the efforts of the race
patron Farouk Kibet for spearheading the race, now in its second edition.
Over 10, 000 athletes are participating in the event, with 70 elite runners set to go head to head in the elite races.
Apart from Prof.
Kithure Kindiki several key government officials, CSs, PSs and political leaders
are in attendance.
This year's
edition themed 'Run for Education' is now a world athletic event after
attaining the Gold Label status.
The two
kilometre loop intertwined by artificial water body and the natural hills being
the recommended requirements for the attainment of the Gold status.
Chepsaita is
one of the most challenging courses due to the deep terrain.
The event
will climax in the afternoon when giants collide in the10 kilometres men and
women race.
