Newly crowned FKF
Premier League champions Kenya Police FC are eyeing a statement finish to their
historic campaign when they face Gor Mahia in their final match of the season
on Sunday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata.
Police, who secured their maiden
top-flight title with a game to spare after edging Shabana FC 1-0, will be
crowned in front of their home fans following the much-anticipated clash
against the 21-time champions.
Captain David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng hailed the squad’s unity and the role played by the club’s management in their successful title run.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Cheche emphasised the squad's motivation to end the season in style.
“It is very
important for us because its history made as the management
has supported us well through salaries and quality players, and probably the
best way to reward them was winning the title,” said Cheche.
Despite their dominant domestic
campaign, Cheche acknowledged the difficulties they faced balancing league
action with CAF Club continental assignment after winning the FKF Cup last
season, which disrupted their rhythm at crucial points in the season.
“The
continental fixtures were a challenge. Travelling long distances and by the
time we came back you could find teams have played five or six matches making it
hard for us to catch up but we worked hard and believed everything could go our
way,” he added.
While Kenya Police celebrate
their first Premier League triumph, Gor Mahia will be seeking consolation in
the FKF Cup final against newly FKF-PL promoted side Nairobi United.
