Change of guard as Nzoia Sugar elects new club chairman
Long-serving Nzoia Sugar FC Chairman Evans Kadenge has left
his role at the club and has been replaced by Yapets Mokua.
Mokua was elected unopposed during the election of a fresh
club management committee held at the company office in Bungoma.
The seasoned football administrator is tasked with leading
the club into a new era, taking over from Evan Kadenge, who retires at the end
of the month.
Kadenge thanked the millers for according him the opportunity to serve, having risen through the ranks to become the club chairman.
“I came into this
team as a player, became team captain, trainer, assistant coach, team manager
and Chairman after I retired from the pitch, I have served for forty years and
it’s time to retire,” Kadenge told Citizen
Digital.
The soft spoken administrator challenged the newly elected
team to steer the team to greater heights.
“I want to challenge the newly elected team under my good
friend Mr. Mokua to lead the team well, let them pick it up from where I have
left and make the team great.”
Mokua's priority, alongside his newly-constituted executive
committee, is to address the pressing issue of financial instability that has
seen the team lose several players in the aftermath of the 2022/23 FKF Premier
League season, where the sugar millers managed a respectable fourth-place
finish.
