Cash trapped baseball federation crying for sponsorship
The federation says they need sponsors to help them raise revenue to take the game to the local level rather than have it only played in urban areas.
Technical director of the federation George Kinuthia Wachira argues that the game has received an immense reception in Kenya since its introduction in 2016, and its time sponsors bring their money to the game.
Wachira notes that the federation had a challenge getting sponsors in their previous edition, but he remained optimistic that it is a matter of time before the game grows.
“If you go to the ground, you will find a lot of interest in the game to the extent some local leaders have started supporting various teams at the local levels. The only issue we now have is the reluctance of companies and the government to come on board and support the game,” said Wachira.
He admits that the cost of buying baseball equipment is enormous, something that makes most people and teams interested in the game fail to buy the equipment, hence derailing the game's growth.
“The cost of some equipment we require for the game is very high, and without a sponsor, it becomes impossible to have them. This makes it difficult for the games to grow among the local people, but we believe the situation will change with time,” added Wachira.
