A high-powered delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is in the country to conduct final critical inspection and stakeholder workshops ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania next month.

The delegation began its visit to Kenya on Thursday with inspections running through to July 6.

The team will assess the country’s readiness by visiting key venues, the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

The inspections will focus on vital operational areas such as broadcasting, safety and security, logistics, team hotels, transport, training grounds, and airport readiness.

At the same time, Interior Ministry Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo attended a meeting with the CHAN-AFCON Multi-Agency Team (CHAN-AFCON MAT) and the Project Oversight Council, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to hosting a world-class tournament.

"I shared progress on the safety and security planning process and ongoing consultations, reaffirming our commitment to ensuring that Kenya delivers a world-class, secure, and well-coordinated CHAN 2025 tournament," said Omollo through a post on his X platform.

The strategic session brought together top officials from various government ministries, departments, and agencies to review the nation’s preparedness across sectors, ranging from infrastructure, hospitality, safety, to inter-agency coordination.

Following the Kenyan leg of the visit, the CAF delegation will proceed to Zanzibar (06–07 July), Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (08–09 July), and finally to Kampala, Uganda (09–10 July) for similar assessments at the respective host stadiums.

The 2025 CHAN tournament will open officially on August 2 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Tanzania, with Kenya expected to host the much-anticipated final at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

For Kenya, the CAF visit marks a pivotal checkpoint in the journey to not only hosting CHAN 2025 but also preparing for AFCON 2027, under the Pamoja initiative, a defining moment in the region’s football history.
