Butali Sugar Warriors head coach Zachary Aura is keen to seal the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) men’s premier league title this weekend.

The defending champions top the league standings with 39 points, five ahead of second-placed Western Jaguars and could retain their title if they bag maximum points when they face Wazalendo and KCA on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, Aura said they have prepared well for the double header with six points only separating them and their fifth consecutive league title.

“As Butali we are well prepared to play against KCA and Wazalendo over the weekend and our target is to win. A fortnight ago we opened a five-point gap at the top of the table meaning with only six points we shall have defended our title this season, something which can happen this weekend.

We pulled were held to a 2-2 draw by Wazalendo in the first leg and this time round we must harvest maximum points. I am urging my charges to stay focused and give it to their all over the weekend as we aim to close the chapter in style.”

Sailor’s Abraham ‘Mosee’ Muiruri is leading the top scorers chat in men’s league with five goals with Butali duo of Festus Onyango and Calvin ‘Kanu’ Omondi having scored three goals each.

Haggai Pepela Sikhila (Sikh Union) and Griffins Okombe (Wazalendo) are tied with two goals.

Aura, a former national team captain retired from international duty in 2015. He played for Butali until he ventured into coaching in 2020 when he replaced Dennis Owoka.
