Butali Sugar Warriors will seal the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) men’s
premier league title if they beat their opponents Western Jaguars on at City
Park on Sunday.
The defending champions are on top of log with 42 points, two adrift of
their weekend opponents Western Jaguars as Kenya Police and USIU wrap up top
four with 30 and 29 points in that order.
In an interview with Citizen Digital, Zacks Aura said they have prepared
well for the crucial weekend task.
“We are well prepared for the match, it’s very crucial to us because a
win will seal us the title. If it happens we lose, we will still have a chance
as we will wait for the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) to make a decision on the
aborted match against KCA a fort night ago, but we don’t want to go that
direction.
“The morale is very high in the team and I’m urging my players to go out
and do their job. It is a must win for my charges as we want to finish the
business at the earliest opportunity possible.”
According to Aura, the match was aborted after just two minutes of play
due to a heavy downpour and was rescheduled to a later date which Butali
refused to honour.
In their refusal, they said that their two players were with the national
team for the Oman international trip.
The move triggered Jaguars to take the matter to the court which up to
date has not been determined.
Other fixtures on Saturday will see Wazalendo take on Strathmore University
as Kenya Police entertain Sikh Union Nairobi.
Sailors’ Abraham ‘Mosee’ Muiruri is leading the top scorers chart in the league with five goals with Butali duo of Festus Onyango and Calvin ‘Kanu’
Omondi scoring three each.
Haggai Pepela Sikhila (Sikh Union) and Griffins Okombe (Wazalendo) are
tied with two goals each.
