Tributes have continued to pour in for AFC Leopards Secretary General Gilbert Andugu who passed on Wednesday in Kitengela, where he has been hospitalized since the beginning of the month.
The club’s chairman Dan Shikanda mourned Andugu as an official who has left a lasting impact at AFC Leopards.
“I would like to tell our fans and everybody that it is tough but we remain calm in this trying moment.
“It’s painful for us to lose SG Andugu. He has been second in command and its shocking but we ask God to be with us in this situation. He has been very instrumental to us as a Club because we have been working together to help the club finish well this season in our remaining matches and as well ensure we stage free and fair elections for the club (to be held on June 29),” stated Shikanda.
Shikanda revealed that the club’s executive will hold a meeting with Mombasa fans branch leaders and the family of the fallen official to plan for his burial.
The meeting is scheduled to be held Wednesday evening at the club’s offices situated in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
“We are having a meeting this evening with his wife, family and Mombasa fans branch leaders so as to agree on burial arrangements.
“I am hearing that the family has decided that Andugu will be buried in Mombasa because he has been living there for a long time. We will respect everything that the family wants and we will work together to ensure he is given a befitting sendoff.”
Andugu has been receiving treatment for the last two years but that has not derailed his vision of a successful Ingwe.
“He started complaining of pains and discomfort about two years ago after our last elections. He attended our first AGM and fell sick and when the second AGM was held he attended but we rushed him to hospital when he was overwhelmed and the third AGM was also the same scenario- he attended although not feeling well and I can say that he has been sick for about two years,” added Shikanda.
