The race for the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League (KWPL) Golden Boot is heating up and Bungoma Queens forward Catherine Khaemba remains the player to watch.

Currently leading the scoring charts with nine goals, Khaemba has proven to be a crucial asset for her team. However, her journey to the top has not been without challenges.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Khaemba admits that the first leg of the season has tested her resilience and adaptability.

“It has not been easy to score goals, especially during this first leg,” Khaemba shared.

“Defenders quickly identified me as a significant threat, and they’ve made it harder for me to find the back of the net.”

As the second leg approaches, Khaemba has sent a clear message to Premier League defenders to brace for impact.

The forward has set an ambitious target of scoring two goals in every match.

“I want to win the Golden Boot and, hopefully, earn a call-up to the Harambee Starlets,” she declared.

The competition for the league’s top scorer is fierce as Rebecca Okwaro of Kenya Police follows closely with seven goals.

Zetech Sparks’ Beverline Adika and Trinity Starlets’ Jackline Chesang are tied in third with five goals each.

Meanwhile, Joy Oyiro of Ulinzi and Linda Okaside of Kisped Queens have also showcased impressive performances with five goals apiece.

Vihiga Queens’ Diana Cherono, alongside Faith Muli and Violet Akinyi from Zetech Sparks, follow closely with four goals each.

Beyond the Golden Boot, Khaemba’s ultimate dream is a call-up to the Harambee Starlets.

Her impressive performances have undoubtedly placed her on the radar, and a strong second-leg performance could cement her place in Kenya’s national women's team.
