Bungoma Queens focus on addressing weaknesses ahead of All Starlets test
Kenyan Women Premier League club Bungoma Queens head coach Godffrey Mabonga says the two-week break has given him the time to rectify their mistakes ahead of weekend fixture.
The Queens take on Kisumu All Starlets on Saturday, February
8, 2025 at the Kitale National Polytechnic seeking a win.
Bungoma are placed fifth on the log with 20 points, eight
behind leaders Kenya Police Bullets as Kibera Soccer Women, Vihiga Queens, and
Ulinzi Starlets wrap up top five with 25, 24 and 22 points in that order.
Speaking to Citizen
Digital, Mabonga said he has used the time to sharpen the striking and
defence departments which seemed to cost him when they were handed a 4-1 hiding
by Kibera Soccer Women a fortnight ago.
“Actually I haven’t healed from the last 4-1 loss against
Kibera. We didn’t expect it but it helped me to identify the areas I needed to
strengthen which are striking and defence.
The league as for now has become very tight and teams are fighting for top position but as Bungoma we shall fight to ensure we finish in a good position.”
We needed to deal with striking and defensive mistakes which
made us concede more goals in our last fixture. Kisumu Starlets is a strong
team but we are focused enough to ensure we snatch three crucial points.”
Ahead of the fixture, Mabonga is still worried about the injuries
raving the squad.
“Misango Becky picked an injury against Kibera, Carol
Khaemba was also injured as well as Zareta Amono, I was also worried by my
dependable defender Belinda Barasa who had picked a red card but now she is
ready to play at the weekend,” he said. “It’s
my hope that they will be back in the team to fuel our expectation.”
Only three matches were played on Sunday Vihiga Queens
winning 2-1 against Zetech Sparks as Ulinzi thrashed newbies Kisped 1-0.
