Bungoma Queens head coach Godfrey Mabonga has voiced his disappointment following his team's 2-1 defeat to Vihiga, ending their hopes of winning a medal this season.
Despite putting
on a fight throughout the match, Bungoma Queens were held back by missed
chances in the final third, leaving Mabonga lamenting his team's inability to
make their dominance count, as they crashed out of the FKF Women’s Cup at the
weekend, at the hands of Vihiga Queens who sailed to the final.
“We played well
and controlled much of the game, but our forwards did not convert the chances
we created. That is what cost us the match,” Mabonga lamented.
The clash
between Bungoma Queens and Vihiga Queens was tightly contested, with both sides
pushing for a place in the final.
Vihiga Queens,
three-time premier league champions, with their clinical edge, made the most of
their chances to advance to the cup's final.
The result means
Vihiga Queens will now face Kibera Soccer Women in the final. Kibera booked
their place after overcoming Kenya Police Bullets, in the other semi-final, in
what was another thrilling encounter.
On the other
hand, Bungoma Queens will now shift focus to the third-place playoff where they
will take on league champions Kenya Police Bullets. Coach Mabonga will be
hoping his players learn from their semi-final mistakes and finish the
tournament on a high note.
