Bungoma Queens' Catherine Khaemba: A rising star in the women’s premier league
Bungoma Queens forward Catherine
Khaemba is lighting up the Women’s Premier League with her exceptional
goal-scoring prowess.
Currently leading the league’s
scoring chart with nine goals, Khaemba has become a symbol of hope for her team
and harbours dreams of representing Kenya on the international stage.
Speaking to Citizen Digital
after her impressive performance in a narrow 2-1 loss to Kenya Police on
Sunday, Khaemba shared her ambitions.
“I am working hard every day to
improve my game. My dream is to represent Kenya at the international level,”
she said.
The match, held in Bungoma, was a
fiercely contested affair, with Kenya Police edging out the home side. Despite
the defeat, there was a glimmer of hope for Bungoma Queens as the national
women’s team coach and Kenya Police tactician, Beldine Odemba, attended the
game.
After the match, Bungoma Queen's head
coach Godfrey Mabonga revealed that Odemba expressed her intent to call up more
than five players from the team to the national squad.
“It’s a proud moment for us as a
club to see our players being considered for national duty. This will motivate
them to work even harder,” Mabonga stated.
This recognition is a significant boost for Khaemba and her teammates as they aim to climb the FKF Women’s
Premier League standings.
The Queens are determined to leave a
mark both in the league and on the national stage, with Khaemba leading the
charge.
As the league progresses, all eyes
will be on the prolific forward, whose talent and determination continue to
inspire her team and fans alike.
