Bungoma Queens ace Simiyu buzzing over Harambee Starlets call-up
Kenya Women’s Premier League (KWPL) outfit Bungoma Queens
skipper Centrine Simiyu is over the moon following her first call-up to the
ladies' national football team Harambe Starlets after her electric performances
this season.
Centrine is enjoying her breakthrough season with the
Bungoma-base club, where she has highlighted her excellent leadership skills as
a captain under coach Robert Machio.
"Of course, am very happy to be called for the first
time to play for my country, I want to thank God, my coach, my teammates, and
the entire management of the club for their support," she said.
Queens tactician Machio has expressed his delight at her
monumental achievement, urging her to go for a starting berth with the national
team in the future.
His sentiments were echoed by team manager Celestimatic
Munyafu who lauded Simiyu for her enviable work ethic.
"She has been a disciplined girl and a good leader and
has made us proud.
“We started with her when we were at regional level,
division one, and now are in the league, am very confident that she will
impress Harambe Starlets coach."
Her scintillating displays this season have been
instrumental to the side’s high-flying start to the 2023-24 season as they
rank third on the KWPL log with 10 points from their opening six
matches.
Centrine has linked up with her Starlets teammates in their
training camp in Nairobi as they prepare to battle Botswana in their 2024
Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers on November 29th.
