AFC Leopards have been offered to use Masinde Muliro Stadium,
Kanduyi in Bungoma, as their home ground, says Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka.
Lusaka has acknowledged the difficult condition Ingwe has faced
due to the lack of their home venue, which can resonate well with Western
region fans.
Like Nzoia Sugar FC, which have Sudi Stadium in Bungoma, Kenya
Police FC, which has Police Sacco Stadium, and Shabana FC, which has Gusii
Stadium, Ingwe should obtain their own home for home matches.
Leopards enjoy their stronghold fan base in Western Kenya, and
Lusaka sees Nyayo Stadium as a Nairobi affair open for all.
“AFC (Leopards) needs to have an anchor and should be anchored
somewhere as their home. You know Nairobi belongs to everyone, but just like
Manchester United—Old Trafford Stadium—and Arsenal—Emirates Stadium—have where
they call home.
We have now the newest stadium, which we are just completing by putting the canopy, and the VIP is just like Nyayo, if not better because we
held here the Madaraka Day celebrations that require presidential standards,"
Lusaka said.
Lusaka has also backed Ingwe to stabilize under the corporate
route plan in the pipeline under the corporate taskforce.
“I think the idea is good because a task force went around for
ideas by recommendations.
“When you visit Tanzania to borrow a leaf from them, you are
poised to improve your team's standards. Including the corporate and Sacco
incorporation," Lusaka added.
According to the former national parliament speaker, it is impossible
to see Leopards suffer financially, yet it has a massive following.
“One of the biggest challenges with teams not sponsored like AFC
Leopards is that they must rely on borrowing, going round with a bowel to call
for financial help even to the president for rescue, and we don’t want that. We
want a strong financial base," Lusaka concluded.
