Olympic 800-meter gold medalist Wilfred Bungei has backed three-time 1500-meter Olympic gold medalist Faith Kipyegon to break the one-mile record by running under four minutes in the much-anticipated Nike Challenge that will be taking place on the 26th of next month in Paris, France.

Bungei cited her speed and endurance during races as key factors that will give her the perfect opportunity to become the first woman to break the record.

“Her consistency, hard work, and discipline make her a favorite to break the record. I believe she will make every Kenyan and other fans proud come the big day,” said Bungei.

Bungei also went on to praise Olympic gold medalist in 10000 meters and 5000 meters Beatrice Chebet, who recently clocked 8:11.56 to win the 3000m at the Rabat Diamond League, the second-fastest time in history, saying she is learning from the best and will soon break the world record in either 10000 meters or 5000 meters.

“He trains with the best. She is surrounded by good management, and she has been consistent in the recent races. If she continues that way, I don’t see why she cannot break it in the near future,” added Bungei.

With the sixth edition of the Kip Keino Classic set to be held on Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, the Olympic gold medalist lauded the organizers of the event, saying it is a sign that Kenya will soon host even bigger events like the Diamond League and World Championship if facilities are in good shape.

“Kenya has always been fantastic when it comes to hosting athletics events, and the event has grown each and every year with proper infrastructure in place, we can be able to bid for the world championship and the Diamond League,“ stated the Olympic gold medalist
