Kabras Sugar head coach Carlos Katywa has thrown a challenge to their archrivals KCB to bring their best game in the Kenya Cup final this season.

Kabras Sugar dispatched Nondescripts 37-09 over the weekend to punch their ticket to the final and the South African tactician was in a bullish mood saying he had already prepared for the final against KCB or Menengai Oilers.

“Without any fear or favor to say, we were just waiting for either (Menengai Oilers or KCB) because we planned ahead; we had already planned for the finals for either. Not to sound cocky, I don't think there is anything we can put into the players to change anything, it’s a matter of doing a reflection of this game and then looking into the KCB versus Oilers game - and see what they did differently and where we can exploit them and what new trends they have.”

Katywa however noted they would need to correct on the few errors exposed during their semi final match with Nondies, to ensure the team is in tip top shape before the final.

“We’ve got some few work-ons for the next two weeks. I think we are playing the final in two weeks time so we’ve been given an opportunity to work on a few things. I’m very proud of my forwards, we’ve dominated upwards but I can’t say the same about the backs - there was a A lot of poor decision making.

"I’m really not happy about some few things but our set pieces were so good this week and also we want to look at some of the weaknesses we were exposed with. We are truly happy that we are in the final again and we hope come the finals we can execute even better than this,”

On his part, Nondies assistant coach Moses Wanyanga said Kabras were too strong for his boys but was proud of their journey in the Kenya cup; their first season back from the Championship.

“Kudos to Kabras, they were definitely dominated in the scrums, things didn’t go our way, luck was definitely on our side but they are a really good side. Again it’s not easier to be up against a fully professional side while we have students, people who are working sacrificing everyday but I’m immensely proud of our effort and what we have done to get here.

"We’ve had a tough season just coming from the championship but we are proud of our effort today; we will go back to the drawing board and rebuild. Kabras are definitely a good side; a fully professional side, they are strong, they train hard, skillful and one of the best teams in open play in the country. That's why they are at the top so they are really good and I wish them well in the final.”

Kabras will host their nemesis KCB at the Kakamega Showground, in Kakamega on March 6, 2024.
