Kakamega
Homeboyz Chairman Cleophas ‘Toto’ Shimanyula believes head coach Francis Barasa
is capable of turning the team’s fortunes to become a powerhouse in local
football.
Barasa
was appointed Homeboyz tactician in October last year replacing Ken Kenyatta after the latter's tenure was dogged by a string of poor results.
The main
aim for roping in Barasa was to revive Homeboyz’s performances and Shimanyula is targeting to lift the elusive gong this term.
“I want
to tell you that we have already started plans to ensure we win the title this
season. We didn’t start the league well this season under the former coach (Ken
Kenyatta) but now things have improved under Barasa with now nine matches
unbeaten thanks to him,” said Shimanyula.
After
making a high-profile signing of Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi early
this month, the former FKF Cup champions are out to further bolster their ranks with five new arrivals.
According
to the Kakamega businessman, nailing their targets will be a huge step in
their quest to meet their season’s ambitions.
Under
the then coach Bernard Mwalala, Homeboyz mounted a surprise title challenge in
2022, only to capitulate and let Tusker win the diadem, something Shimanyula regrets.
“We have
agreed with the technical bench to add five good players. Matasi has already
joined and so we are left with four. When we get those four that we are
targeting I can assure you that the league title is coming,” he charged.
Homeboyz
are sitting at position eight with 27 points, 11 behind leaders Police FC after
20 rounds of matches.
Since losing 2-0 to Gor Mahia with 10-men, Homeboyz have managed to register four wins and five draws.
