Boxing fraternity organise exhibition bout in honour of pugilist Shigali who was shot dead last week

The celebrated boxing champion, Raphael Shigali was allegedly shot dead near Mogas petrol station on Jogoo Road, Nairobi.

The Nairobi County Boxing Club and the Kenya Boxing Federation in collaboration with the family of the late Raphael Shigali are planning a boxing exhibition match in honour of the late boxer.

Raphael Shigali, 35, the reigning Nairobi Bantamweight Champion is among Kenyans who lost their lives during the anti-government protests held Wednesday last week.

The celebrated champion was allegedly shot dead near Mogas petrol station on Jogoo Road, Nairobi.

The news of Shigali's untimely demise was confirmed by the Jericho Boxing Club, leaving the local boxing community and fans in shock.

The boxing bout will see his former boxing colleagues from team Police, Prison and KDF square it out.

The family, through his elder brother, Omar Shakur, said Shigali's body has been moved to the Chiromo mortuary as funeral arrangements take place.

Shigali's death comes as a devastating blow to the Kenyan boxing community, as he was a member of the country's provisional squad for the 2022 African Amateur Boxing Championships in Maputo, Mozambique.
