Former Boston and Chicago marathon runner-up champion Wesley Korir has backed his brother John Korir to keep shining in the marathon world after winning last evening’s Boston Marathon in 2:45:45.

Speaking after witnessing his brother winning the race at the finish line, Korir cited his brother's discipline and hard work as traits that will help him carve out a successful career as an athlete.

“He is a very talented young man who is so disciplined and very hard working I knew his time will come and it has come at the right time I see very bright future for him if he stays focused,” said Korir.

Yesterday's victory comes 13 years after Wesley stormed to victory in the same race in 2012, and according to the former champion, his brother can achieve more if he stays grounded on hard work and keeps his current management.

“He is well managed and does his training very well and I remember challenging   him to win the Boston marathon that is the only way is will recognized his hard work and now he has done it at the right time in front of my eyes I am very pleased about it,” added Korir.

Kenyans dominated both men’s and women's races, with Sharon Lokedi winning the women's race in a course record of 2:17:22 for the win, ahead of former champion Hellen Obiri, who ran 2:17:41 to finish second.

“I am always like second to her but today I was like ‘no way, I have to put it out there’. I was determined to fight to the end and see how it goes. I am so glad, I ran so fast and she was right behind me,” stated the champion.
