Boost to Butula rugby team as four players recover, in time for East Africa Games
Butula
High School rugby sevens team has been handed a shot in the arm ahead of the
East Africa School Games set to begin in Arusha on Thursday following the
recovery of four key players.
The
four picked injuries during the national finals against Konyonza in Nakuru and
Butula head coach Shimenga Livondo has confirmed their recovery, in time for
the showpiece.
“We
lost our four key players to injuries during the final and that affected our
game plan because we had to make changes in the line up so the few chances that
we created during the match we didn’t materialise due to their absence,” said
Shimenga.
At
the same time Shimenga says they will have to work on sharpening their attack
in order to perform well in the games that will run from September 15-24 in
Arusha.
“We
are ready for the competition, we’re going there fearless, we will take one
game at a time and the good news we have heading to Arusha is that we have the
injured players are back and ready for the mission to make Kenya proud,” he
added.
This
being the first time the team will be playing at the East Africa games, the
former St Peter’s Mumias head coach is wary of the experience needed to handle
the pressure from more experienced teams from the region.
“I have taken my former school to the regionals
many times and I know how tough teams are but we are confident of matching the
best and beating them because our aim is to be champions of East Africa,”the
experienced tactician told Citizen
Digital.
