National Super League (NSL) side Darajani Gogo FC
have received more than KSh.5 million plus other forms support from their
sponsors and well wishers, as they target a strong league finish and Premier League slot next season.
In the fundraising gala held at Real Towes Annex in Nairobi, the
club's patron Dr. Ahmed Kalebi who is also the team's shirt sponsor said that
the team’s expenditure for a whole season amounts to over KSh.12 million on the
lower end.
He underlined the need for purposeful partnerships with such
community clubs, saying the benefit goes way beyond the pitch.
"We usually say that this is not just a sponsorship; it is a
partnership to better our community,” stated Kalebi.
Kenya Red Cross presented a KSh.2 million cheque for the Kibera-based
team as well as a bus which will help them for logistical purposes.
“It is not that we have a lot of resources but it is that we
believe in your cause. We look forward to having more of this partnership in
the future,” said Dr. Ahmed Idris, Secretary General Kenya Red Cross.
Last year the team raised KSh.6.7 million, and KSh. 4.2 million has
already been spent so far.
Other sponsors include Freedom Airlines, who have committed 1.5million over the next one year with Emergency Medical Services offering an ambulance during their home matches.
Darajani Gogo are currently fourth in the NSL standing with 33
points, eight behind leaders Nairobi United.
