Blak Blad to miss Pirates Enterprise Cup tie due to financial strain
Head coach Bernard Rotich says the university’s management has decided to only focus on the East African University Games set to take place at Maseno University from December 16 to 20 this year.
Rotich however said they will also not participate in the inter-universities tournament due to unavailability of players who will be sitting for their Decembers exams.
“The fixture has coincided with our school exam’s schedule; secondly there is the East African University school games as from next week and also the financial constraints from the management side. So, those are the reasons we will not be able to honor the game and we’ve already communicated our decision to the Kenya Rugby Union.”
Their no show will mean Kilifi based South Coast Pirates will be handed a walk over with a score of 28-0.
“Kenyatta University will send teams in other disciplines but I think the rugby guys are not going because most of them will not have cleared their exams; the players who are to attend the games must’ve completed their exams by 15th Dec which rules us out. Majorly our main reason for not honoring the Pirates fixture is the financial constraint,” he added.
In other fixtures, Kabras Sugar will for the second weekend running play Kisumu RFC at the ASK Showground in Kakamega, having thrashed the lakeside outfit 137-07 last weekend.
KCB will welcome a struggling Mwamba RFC at the KCB Sports club as Kenya Harlequin take on Strathmore Leos at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.
High flying Menengai Oilers host Daystar Falcons with Nakuru RFC taking on Catholic Monks at the ASK showground, Nakuru.
