Strathmore Blades head coach Tony Ochieng has
pointed out key areas his team need to work on in the remaining three games.
The students have so far played eight games in the
first leg of the Kenya National Men’s Basketball Premier League with the
remaining games being varsity derbies.
Strathmore defeated giants Equity Dumas 66-62 last
Saturday at the Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi.
“We really need to work on shooting and free throws
because in our last game against Equity Dumas we missed our last seven free
throws which is a very critical area that the boys need to work on.
“Another area that we really need to work on is
beating their traps; we were not able to penetrate through their traps while
our opponents took advantage of that,” said Ochieng.
Ochieng is optimistic of getting the maximum points
when they play their last three games against fellow varsity sides.
The games are against USIU Tigers, Africa Nazarene
University’s Wolfpacks and University of Nairobi’s Terror.
“Since I will be having the national KUSA national
playoffs this weekend it will really help me to adjust on our structures and
our systems. If we get the three wins for me, well and good as it will help us
to be in top five positions which will be a very huge target for me,” Ochieng
added.
Ochieng is well aware of areas he needs to polish in
the remaining games. Blades who were to play USIU Tigers last Sunday didn’t
manage to due to power outrage at the gymnasium and they will be resuming the league
next weekend but one on March 22.
The students have so far played eight games, winning
three and losing five and have 11 points at the moment as the league gains
momentum.
