Kenya’s Bernard Biwott and Angela Tanui delivered strong performances at the 2025 Schneider Electric Paris Marathon on Sunday, April 13, with Biwott winning the men’s race in a personal best 2:05:25 and Tanui claiming bronze in the women’s contest.

Biwott, 22, broke away from a tightly packed group with 10 kilometres to go, dropping his rivals to secure his second career marathon victory after last year’s debut win in Frankfurt. He knocked 29 seconds off his previous best time.

Djibouti’s Ibrahim Hassan chased hard but settled for second in 2:06:13. Kenya’s Sila Kiptoo was third in 2:06:21, followed by Enock Kinyamal (2:06:32) and Dominic Ngeno (2:06:37). All top ten men dipped under 2:10, underlining the quality of the field.

Biwott’s win adds to an impressive recent run that includes half marathon titles in Santa Pola (59:44) and Naples (59:47).

In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Bedatu Hirpa held off Dera Dida in a dramatic sprint finish to win in 2:20:45—just four seconds ahead of her training partner.

Tanui, back in top form, clocked 2:21:07 to finish third, adding to her podium finish in Beijing last year. The 2017 Amsterdam Marathon winner and former Napoli Half Marathon champion continues to prove her consistency at the highest level.

Tanzania’s Magdalena Shauri was fourth in 2:21:31, while Kenya’s Janet Ruguru also impressed with a 2:24:36 finish in sixth. Eleven women finished under 2:30, making it one of the strongest women’s fields ever seen in Paris.
