Ulinzi Warriors head coach Bernard Mufutu is confident his side will return to winning ways when they face Lakeside in a National Men’s Basketball Premier League clash at Nyayo Gymnasium on Saturday.

The soldiers will be seeking redemption after suffering a setback against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Mombasa last weekend.

However, the team will be buoyed by a convincing 62–42 victory over Ghana Revenue Authority in an international friendly played earlier this week.

Mufutu said the team has intensified training in a bid to correct recent shortcomings and improve overall performance.

“We’re working to polish the areas where we haven’t been performing well. Training has been good, the squad is fully fit, and everyone is motivated and looking forward to the match. Our focus is on showing up as a unit, doing the right things, and securing a win,” he said.

A win for Ulinzi would strengthen their position in the standings as the league action gathers pace.

Elsewhere, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) head coach Samuel Ocholla has praised his team’s defensive discipline even as they continue to fine-tune new tactical systems in the women’s league.

The Dockers extended their impressive start to the campaign with a commanding 72-33 victory over Strathmore Swords at Makande Gymnasium last weekend.

KPA have now won all their opening four matches and currently sit third on the standings with eight points.

Ocholla expressed satisfaction with the performance, particularly the team’s defensive organization, while noting that the players are gradually adapting to new systems.

“We got the win and we got the maximum out of that. The defense was working well, and also we are trying new systems and the players are slowly grasping them,” he said.

“We’ll continue also working on our defense so that they can be across with a tight defense as we prepare for the coming games.”
