Barthes Trophy: Skipper Omondi rallies Chipu to go for Zimbabwe scalp
Kenya U20 rugby team
captain Edmund Omondi has urged his team mates to give their all so as to return
home with the Barthes trophy.
Kenya face Tunisia this Wednesday in Harare, Zimbabwe after securing a 34-18 win against Namibia in
their opening game.
Omondi who is one of
the most experienced players in the squad having played in last year’s World
U20 Trophy in Nairobi says they will be looking to wrestle the trophy from
the hosts.
“We’ve come here, we
mean business, we want to go back home with the trophy; many people are looking
forward to us winning the trophy and we are trying our best not to disappoint
them.”
The Kenya Harlequins
flanker says they have full confidence in the new technical bench led by head
coach Simon Jawichre. They hope the sunny weather
currently being experienced in the Zimbabwean Capital will be an extra
incentive for the boys.
“We have a technical bench that we really trust in, they’ve seen how we’ve done, they know the weaknesses we had in different areas and we have improved in them and we will just trust them in the squad they will be naming and the practice we’ve been having.
He went on: "So, we are really confident in the
technical staff. The weather in Harare is sunny, really nice unlike in Kenya
where the weather is unpredictable, its constant, really nice weather for playing
rugby,” remarked Omondi.
