Barasa glad to help Nzoia seal relegation escape
Forward Levis Barasa Okello is still celebrating the goal
that ultimately secured Nzoia Sugar’s FKF Premier League survival when they
drew 1-1 with Gor Mahia FC last weekend.
Nzoia are 15th on the league standings with 31 points, three
points above Wazito FC who occupy the promotion/relegation slot below them.
Wazito’s inferior goal record means they cannot catch Nzoia
even if they win their final game of the season against already relegated
Vihiga Bullets and Nzoia lose at home to Leopards.
“I was happy after scoring against Gor because it is a game
that we really needed to get something to have some breathing space heading
into the final game of the season.
“The goal also ended my long run of not scoring a goal which
marked a tricky period for me because the team was also not performing well
aside from that the goal also helped the team avoid relegation which makes it
more special,” said Barasa.
Barasa had endured a 13-game goal drought with his last goal
coming against Mathare United back in early March.
The final round of the league season will be played on Saturday
when either Tusker FC or Kakamega Homeboyz will be crowned champion.
