Bankers overpower Prison in straight sets

National Women’s Volleyball Champions KCB humbled Nairobi Prison 3-0 in an exciting third leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation League action at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Under the guidance of head coach Japheth Munala, the Bankers delivered a commanding performance, securing a straight-sets victory (25-16, 25-17, 25-14) over their opponents.

Speaking after the victory, head coach Japheth Munala said: “Our reception, attacks and blocks worked perfectly well today. I am proud of the girls for listening to the coaches and for showcasing amazing volleyball. We started the season on a high and it is my hope that we will maintain the same momentum to move up the ladder in the log standings.”

Following Juliana Namutira’s ankle injury, youngster Faith Cherotich started for the Munala-led side alongside Edith Wisa, Marlene Terry, Fridah Boke, Belinda Barasa, Lincy Jeruto, and Mercy Moim.

The inclusion of Marlene Terry and Fridah Boke has been the key to KCB’s recent success. Their skills, passion and quality has given a different dimension to Munala’s team.

“Since Esther Mutinda is sidelined for the season, I am happy with the young players who have joined the team and are showing a strong desire to win. We need such aggressiveness and determination to propel this team to greater heights,” added Munala.

The team will face Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) tomorrow, January 26, 2025 at the same venue.

In an early tie, KPC showcased their superior skills and teamwork right from the start to beat Kenya Army 3-0 (25:14, 25:14, 25:18).

In the other fixture, Post Bank of Kenya emerged victorious with a 3-1 in sets, leaving  Kenya Defence Force to regroup and plan their comeback in the next leg.
