Bandari's 'Lampard' sets sights on KPL Golden Boot
Bandari FC’s top scorer, Beja Nyamawi, is determined to finish the 2024-2025 Kenya Premier League (KPL) season as the league’s leading goal scorer.
Now in his second season with The Dockers, Nyamawi has scored seven goals in 18 matches and aims to score 20 by the end of the campaign.
His latest goal came on Sunday against Nairobi City Stars at Mbaraki Stadium, boosting his confidence for the remainder of the season.
“We’re in the second leg now, and I’m working hard to get on the score sheet in every game. My target is 20 goals, and I’m confident I can achieve that and finish as the top scorer, Inshallah,” he said.
Nicknamed Lampard by his coastal fans, Nyamawi has impressed with his skill, energy, and powerful shots, making him one of the KPL’s most promising strikers and a potential future asset for the national team.
He leads Bandari’s attack alongside Alvin Ngoto, having faced stiff competition last season from Ugandan forwards Derrick Nsibambi and Umar Kasumba. Despite a strong start, Bandari currently sits seventh in the KPL standings.
“We’re fighting hard as a team, and now that the second leg has begun, we have to push ourselves to the limit,” Nyamawi added. “I believe my goals will help the team and earn me the Golden Boot.”
Coast-based veteran sports journalist Abdulrahman Shariff believes Nyamawi is being nurtured well at Bandari and has a bright future with the national team.
“Soon, Beja will become a regular for the national team, even though he missed out on the squad for the Mapinduzi Cup,” Shariff remarked.
At 26, Nyamawi is bouncing back strongly after a knee injury sidelined him for much of last season. Now fully fit, he looks set for a standout finish to the campaign.
