Bandari Queens, Kayole Starlets face off in frantic Women’s NSL title-chasing clash

Bandari Queens coach Janet Amunga wants her charges to be in top form when they face leaders Kayole Starlets in a top of the table National Super League (NSL) Women’s League Zone A clash set for Saturday at Calvary Grounds in Nairobi.

Speaking on Thursday before the squad left for Nairobi, Amunga emphasized that the team had developed a solid game plan to secure maximum points away and close the gap between them and Kayole Starlets.

Starlets lead the 12-team league on 42 points, six above Bandari Queens after 17 rounds.

“We are fully prepared for the challenge, but we are determined to go for the win. Our focus is on getting all the three points from this match and reducing the gap between us and Kayole.

“We approach each match differently depending on how our opponents play. The way we played against MTG will not be the same as how we’ll play against Kayole. We know they are also preparing for us, but we’re fully ready for the game,” said Amunga.

Bandari Queens lost 1-0 in the first leg of the season at home in Serani, Mombasa and they will be keen to deny the home side completing a double over them.

Starlets have lost just one match, drawn three and won 13 while Bandari Queens have lost three, drawn three, and won 11 matches.

Queens have been the most prolific team in the league this season, having scored 38 goals, while only conceding 13.

Their goalkeeper, Belinda Akinyi, who previously turned for Police Bullets, Ulinzi Starlets and Mathare Queens has been a key player for the team, keeping ten clean sheets and playing a vital role in their defensive stability.

With both teams having strong attacking and defensive records, this upcoming clash promises to be a thrilling encounter as the league leaders look to extend their lead, while Bandari Queens aim to close the gap and make a serious push for the top spot.
