Babu working to diversify Nzoia attacking options
Nzoia United head coach Salim Babu is concerned
his strikers are not scoring “enough goals,” and is keen on diversifying his
scoring options within the squad.
New signing Mohammed Barisa has been unavailable for selection
since getting injured on his FKF-PL debut match against Gor Mahia, and Babu has
been left with no choice but to try other options to get the goals.
The Millers, who are currently second in the Premier League
standings after six games, have only managed to score more than one goal in a
game just once this season, in the win over KCB on December 11, 2022.
Boniface Kweyu is the side’s leading scorer with 4 goals, all from
the penalty spot.
“We have been working it (goals) on the training ground. Our build
up is good, marshaled by our midfield. Our only issue has been upfront. We are
pressing from the front and creating waves of attack, but our only issue has
been our poor finishing.”
Babu feels that scoring goals from different departments will make
his side unpredictable and compliment the worrying lack of goals by his
attackers.
“What we are therefore trying to do is use our wide forwards to stay narrow, and one of our number 8s to get forwards and get into goal scoring positions. It is the only way we can get more goals.”
Nzoia face 11th placed Bidco United at the Thika Stadium on
Wednesday, fancying their chances of going top of the table with a win.
